Personal Narrative

The Creative conundrum: how can I be creatively satisfied but economically secure? The first year of my university life was enjoyed in the tactile world of a Textiles major. But as my mind revelled in my love for textiles it revolted in career objective.

As a mature age student I applied to university with hope and a clear goal that in 3 years time, I would walk away with a profitable and satisfying professional objective. Up until this point personal objectives of travel, fun and experience had been my focus and achievement.
Themes began to emerge within my textile work. I had exposed my cynical views towards the integration of social media and everyday life. Facebook, Face-value, Face-reality, was a theme of mine at the time. It was through this critical glare that I came to the following realisation. I wasn’t ill disposed to the Internet, I was intrigued by it.

Armed with my newfound compulsion to explore what 'real' implications the Internet had, I began moulding my subjectivity. The Arts and Culture were never far from my heart. An amazing convergence began to appear. My studies into Indigenous Australia highlighted the ability of a threatened culture to survive. It was during this time that I was introduced to Hetti Perkins and her amazing TV series, Art + Soul. My respect for Aboriginal culture grew and with it my understanding of how important the arts are in keeping, culture alive and its people grounded. With this in mind I began research into the roles of galleries and museums in contemporary society. Two parallels began to emerge between my interest in Curation and Internet Communications…‘Shared Space and Shared Experience.’

The Arts and the Internet are both platforms through which Shared Space and Shared Experience underpin its longevity and significance. By the time I had finished my first semester of Internet Communications I had confidently come to personal realisation...
‘The internet is indefinite, invaluable and timely.’
And so it is now, as I stand at the tepid waters edge of purpose and ponder the many ripples of possibility, that I present my blog.
